Safe Travels
Travel Oregon lists 2 of our three “craters,” the anchors of our Newberry Country Trail, as recommended queer travel destinations. The Newberry National Volcanic Monument and Crater Lake offer some great recreational activities. We have traveled to all the Day Trippin’ destinations separately or together without incident or hearing of negative incidents. Newberry Country travel-related businesses are naturally welcoming to all travelers regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, immigration status, religion or disability. When asked, they don’t know why they wouldn’t be! You’ll find a list at the bottom of the page.
You won’t find any queer or BILAPOC bars, hangouts, or events; just a live-and-let-live atmosphere, great outdoor activities, and businesses. It is true that we have had to purposely work at actually creating the information that we have and that these staff and volunteers are queer and not BILAPOC, but we are actively gathering information on the safety and acceptance all of us need when enjoying the outdoors and local businesses.
The tables of Welcoming Businesses were compiled by the La Pine Chamber of Commerce in 2019. At the time, only two businesses in our travel area declared themselves as unwelcoming to everyone.. They have both closed their doors. Please let us know in the comments section about your experiences so we can begin to build community regarding our welcoming businesses and outdoor spaces!
