Visit Newberry Country

La Pine is your gateway to recreation year round. Tourists are attracted to the region by activities that include hunting, fishing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, wind surfing, backpacking, camping, golfing, mountain biking, white water rafting, spelunking, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The Deschutes National Forest that surrounds the La Pine Area, boasts more than 158 lakes and reservoirs, over 100 campgrounds, and over 240 miles of streams. An 89 mile paved driving tour takes you past spectacular views of many mountain lakes and streams and the cascade mountains.

Set in the heart of Central Oregon, we are the center of “Newberry Country” and the gateway to recreation year round. Our backyard is the Newberry Caldera, the largest volcano in the Cascades. Paulina & East Lakes are at it’s heart. The 25 year Anniversary of the Newberry Monument took place during 2015/2016.

The Deschutes River is one of Oregon’s premier recreation rivers and it starts just West of La Pine at Wickiup Reservoir. It is a challenging river to raft and its smaller cousin, the Little Deschutes River, also starts in the clear cold cascades. It winds its way through many of La Pine’s subdivisions, and there are many “in and out” spots along both rivers for rafters and fishing.

Recreation in Central Oregon is at your doorstep. The wonderful people who live in the area are set up to help you find your fun!

There are 2.5 million acres of forest, seven wilderness areas, six rivers, 157 lakes, 1600 miles of trails. And there is the unique landscape of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. The Monument’s 7,984 ft. Paulina Peak, prominently looks over the town. Scan the Cascades, from California to Washington and the caldera below, with Paulina and East Lakes. Visit Paulina Falls, the Lava Cast Forest and Lava River Cave, with self-guided tours.

The Little Deschutes River flows by La Pine and the Big Deschutes River. Dozens of high lakes are within a few minutes of downtown La Pine.

There are also great annual events to go see. So what’s your interest? Let us help you find the right place to make your outdoor dreams come true!
